peter gabriel’s real world label gets a lot of flack but it was so important in opening me up to sounds from the wider world as a kid. it also added to my appreciation for production (the source of a lot of the crticism) introducing me to the sonic worlds of michael brook and hector zazou.
without those early nusrat and orreyema CDs i probably wouldn’t have discovered the amazing makeba who passed today.
