a blog post about perhaps my greatest love originally posted september 08:

big science

  • all the greatest loves are ethereal and decidedly non-physical, they’re the loves of ideas and gods. my love for new york is really a love for an imagined, fictionalized idealized vision of ny that has roots in film (scorsese, jarmusch, woody allen, liquid sky), music (no new york, dylan, reich, glass, cale, black star, la monte young, francois k, levan, tonic, twilo, cbgb’s) and art + lit (basquiat, rothko, paik, fluxus, ginsberg, kerouac, mailer). this fly-on-the-wall radio show from laurie anderson’s o-superman 1981 launch party somehow captures the anything goes anything can happen ny spirit i love so much. from a recent discovery (via the supreme alex ross’ the rest is noise) : the phenomenal other minds archive.

RadiOM.org is a unique new music resource providing access to historical and contemporary material recorded over a fifty year-plus span. This collection is a not-for-profit service presented by Other Minds, Inc. of San Francisco.

  • after more than a decade of threatening to, i finally moved to ny late last month and i already feel more at home than i have anywhere else. for the moment life trumps fiction.
